Team Leader/Supervisor Level 3 Apprenticeship

Tailored to Volunteer Management, this Level 3 Apprenticeship is delivered in partnership with BPP Education Group, and is for those responsible for leading and supporting their volunteering teams on a day to day basis.

Course information

Background

Voluntary sector experts ‘Attend’ and global education provider BPP Education Group have joined forces to create a programme developing confident and motivated managers and leaders of volunteers.

BPP already runs a successful Level 3 Team Leader/Supervisor Apprenticeship building the capabilities of current or aspiring business leaders. The current course uses real-life experiences to learn how to offer direction, instruction and guidance in a management role. When leadership is in a voluntary setting these skills and techniques need to be adapted to consider the specific roles of volunteers.

The Level 3 Team Leader/Supervisor Apprenticeship for a volunteer management context will use materials written from a volunteer management perspective, and learners are supported by someone with first-hand experience of managing and leading volunteers.

Attend Academy Lead, Stephen Moreton said: “Programmes that consider the specific volunteer perspective are surprisingly rare but much needed and we’re excited to launch this programme with BPP. It’s brand new, but it’s actually not our first partnership – we worked with BPP 20 years ago to create and deliver the first ever nationally accredited (CIPD) programme designed for those responsible for managing volunteers. We’ve come a long way together and it’s great to be back with this brilliant offering.”

Learner Journey:

  • Programme induction
  • Group webinars
  • Discussions with personal coach to develop work-based portfolio
  • Assessment (Presentation)
  • Assessment (Professional Discussion)

How it is assessed

A presentation…

…where you provide evidence of how you build and support your volunteering team, how you use various forms of communication, solve volunteering related problems using data that supports your decision-making, and show how your approach aligns with the broader volunteering strategy whilst supporting a positive organisation culture.

A professional discussion…

…where you explain and reinforce how you seek to build a high performance volunteering team, how you plan, deliver and evaluate volunteering projects, whilst showing an understanding of the governance of your organisation, and how you seek to manage yourself to optimise your own personal effectiveness.

Cost

If you work for a levy-paying organisation, there is no cost – just the assurance from your employer that your role relates to leadership/supervision of your team, and that you will be supported to spend at least 20% of your time on off-the-job training and development (so a day a week, if you’re full-time).

If your employer does not pay the levy, don’t worry. At least 95% of non-levy-paying employers’ apprenticeship training and assessment costs in England will be paid for by the government.

The government will ask these employers to make a 5% cash contribution to the cost. But even then, there are options to have this cost covered from other sources.
